As part our Woodlands topic we are reading the story of Stick Man by Julia Donaldson. It is a brilliant story and we all love it. We made our own stick man people. We are looking forward to seeing Stick Man at the theatre next week.

‘I’m Stick Man, I’m Stick Man, I’m Stick Man…That’s me!’

It is ready! At last! The AMAZING sensory room in the Woodlands Unit! We have been so excited and have waited in anticipation and we can safely say that we are all in love with the sensory room. It contains a colour changing bubble tube, a voice activated wall, a projector, some comfy seats and an interactive sound wall.

Please enjoy the pictures of us exploring the room for the first time!

We all had fun celebrating Diwali. We ate some tasty Indian food including curry and samosas. We were very brave at trying different foods.

We learnt some bhangra dance moves which was great fun and we danced in our beautiful and colourful scarves.

We learnt about how people celebrate Diwali and had a fantastic afternoon in our class room. We even made a colourful lantern and had candles(plastic ones of course!)

Happy Diwali!

Fine motor fun at the dough disco!!

This week we took part in the dough disco. It is a great video which helps us strengthen our hands and fingers. We have fun squeezing it, pinching it, rolling it and smacking it! The disco music is so funky and we have learnt all the moves.

This kind of intervention is a great way of improving and strengthening our fine motor skills and it helps us to take part in every day tasks such as holding a pencil, cutting skills and undoing and doing up buttons and clothing.

We always love painting and getting messy in Squirrels. Our favourite afternoons involve arts and crafts. We have done some great art this term. We hope you like some of our work. Autumn has been a big focus- making leaf pictures and painting woodland creatures. We look forward to putting up all our beautiful art work in our new class room.

Squirrels enjoyed a yoga session. We learnt some new moves and did lots of stretching. It was great fun. We all watched and listened very carefully and independently performed some moves.

It was a great afternoon. We said ‘Namaste’ which is a respectful greeting and at the end of the session we laid on the floor and rested our bodies.

The children in Squirrels class have been enjoying sensory circuits in the mornings. It is so much fun! They have been bouncing on the trampoline, crawling through the tunnel, having a hand and foot massage and rolling through the roller. We have seen their confidence and independence grow the last few weeks.
